Happy Birthday From Radio's Roy Gray

"One of the first things listeners are made aware of when they tune in to the show is the specific and long list of countries and kingdoms in which we're heard...So, people who know birthday people definitely want to get me to do the 'happy birthday' thing on the air," said Popular Weekend Radio Personality Roy Gray. "The only restriction I have is I don't want to impose restrictions," Gray said, convinced he has said something brilliant, adding, "If a couple in The Philippines is celebrating a wedding anniversary, no problem. Ditto for companies celebrating business anniversaries. "So, again, if it's a birthday or anniversary, get to know me." Gray, who is also an independent voice-over artist and cousin of "Mary Mary" Super Producer Warryn "Baby Dubb" Campbell, hosts the popular "Simply Gospel" music program, which airs live on theICN.Com (The International Christian Network) every Saturday Night at 6 PST.

John Mayer charms fan with a birthday kiss

05 February 2007 (Sawf News) - John Mayer was extra generous in pleasing his fans at his concert in Oklahoma City this past Saturday. Between songs taking a pause, Mayer commented on various signs held up by the audience members. One particular sign was held by a female fan to whom he said, "Yours is a little more complex, multifaceted. 'Sweet 16 and never been kissed. Wanna be my first?' " Indulging the fan, Mayer then climbed down the stage and into the crowd and gave her a kiss. "Alright! ... Congratulations. Happy birthday," he said and climbed back on stage. The fan was twice lucky as Mayer's favorite girl, Jessica Simpson, was not in the audience. The pair of them had spent time together on Florida leg of his tour and now people are wondering if the two will walk the red carpet together for the Grammy's this Sunday.

50-year-old 'Birthday' chock-full of menace

Directed by Tom Ross. (Through March 4. Aurora Theatre, 2081 Addison St., Berkeley. Two hours, 25 minutes. Tickets $38. Call (510) 843-4822 or visit www.auroratheatre.org). There are no candles to blow out in Harold Pinter's "The Birthday Party." When the stage goes dark, it's a flashlight that eventually illuminates the face of the birthday boy. What it reveals isn't pretty, but it's almost as shocking and dramatically effective today as it was nearly 50 years ago. In a sense, the Aurora Theatre revival that opened Thursday is a 50th anniversary production of the recent Nobel Prize winner's first full-length play. "Birthday" didn't premiere until 1958, but it was written in 1957. It wasn't widely recognized as a turning point in the modern drama, however, until it was revived in 1964, after the major success of Pinter's "The Caretaker." The Bay Area had already begun its long love affair with Pinter by then, after the old Actors Workshop mounted "Birthday" as the first Pinter play produced in America in '61.

Out-of-form Gav gets bad birthday news

Henson gets invited to plenty of celebrity functions as the boyfriend of the tabloids' favourite, singer-turned-television host Charlotte Church. But the glamour boy of Welsh rugby didn't get the big one he would have wanted on his 25th birthday - a place in the Wales team against Ireland. For a person who, despite his high-profile, prides himself on his sport, it will be a devastating blow. Asked why he hadn't picked Henson against the title favourites, Wales coach Gareth Jenkins replied, "His form, as simple as that." .

Concert Review: Rubinstein's 120th Birthday

The good old Jewish blessing "Until 120" can no longer be addressed to pianist Arthur Rubinstein who passed away at the age of 95. Nevertheless, his 120th birthday was celebrated by a commemorative concert entitled "Homage to Arthur Rubinstein". As soloist, the event appropriately featured Ukrainian pianist Alexander Gavrylyuk (22), winner of the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition 2005 in Israel. He displayed an exquisite, ingratiating soft touch in Intermezzi and Rhapsodies by Brahms, and warm-blooded yet tastefully controlled animated expression with brilliant virtuosity in Etudes by Chopin. In Dvorak's Piano Quintet, with the Ariel Quartet (Sasha Kazovsky, Gershon Gerchikov, Sergey Tarachanski, Amit Even-Tov) he discreetly took the lead without assuming a too obviously dominating solo role.

Thackeray celebrates 80th birthday without customary address

Mumbai, Jan 23: Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray on Tuesday celebrated his 80th birthday in a break from tradition - "quietly" and without his customary address to party workers. Thackeray would spend the day at his residence `Matoshree` in suburban Bandra with family members, party sources said, adding he would not be meeting workers as he has been doing for the past 40 years. Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray and BJP leader Gopinath Munde would present to him the joint manifesto of the saffron combine for the February one Mumbai civic body polls before releasing it at the Sena headquarters in Dadar later in the day. A small note in the Sena mouthpiece `Saamana` instructed party workers, who wanted to wish Thackeray, to deposit the amount they would have spent on flowers or garlands in an envelope at `Matoshree` as a donation.
