John Mayer charms fan with a birthday kiss

05 February 2007 (Sawf News) - John Mayer was extra generous in pleasing his fans at his concert in Oklahoma City this past Saturday. Between songs taking a pause, Mayer commented on various signs held up by the audience members. One particular sign was held by a female fan to whom he said, "Yours is a little more complex, multifaceted. 'Sweet 16 and never been kissed. Wanna be my first?' " Indulging the fan, Mayer then climbed down the stage and into the crowd and gave her a kiss. "Alright! ... Congratulations. Happy birthday," he said and climbed back on stage. The fan was twice lucky as Mayer's favorite girl, Jessica Simpson, was not in the audience. The pair of them had spent time together on Florida leg of his tour and now people are wondering if the two will walk the red carpet together for the Grammy's this Sunday.

In a sense, the Aurora Theatre revival that opened Thursday is a 50th anniversary production of the recent Nobel Prize winner's first full-length play. "Birthday" didn't premiere until 1958, but it was written in 1957. It wasn't widely recognized as a turning point in the modern drama, however, until it was revived in 1964, after the major success of Pinter's "The Caretaker." The Bay Area had already begun its long love affair with Pinter by then, after the old Actors Workshop mounted "Birthday" as the first Pinter play produced in America in '61.

Birthday boy toasts 60 years in finance

Dennis Draper, compliance officer at Pavis Financial Management, will not only toast his 75th birthday today he will also be celebrating nearly 60 years in financial services. Liverpool born and bred Draper has always worked in his hometown. He joined Scottish Widows straight from school in 1948, aged 16, after a toss-up between the insurance company and a Warrington-based washing powder company. Draper said: ‘I didn't really want to travel out to Warrington as I thought it was too far so opted for Widows and I ended up staying with them for 25 years. I started as a clerk and progressed to an inspector, which was what we now call an adviser.' Just two years into his career, Draper was conscripted to the RAF and stationed in East Yorkshire where he spent the next three years.

Nevertheless, his 120th birthday was celebrated by a commemorative concert entitled "Homage to Arthur Rubinstein". Thackeray celebrates 80th birthday without customary address

Mumbai, Jan 23: Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray on Tuesday celebrated his 80th birthday in a break from tradition - "quietly" and without his customary address to party workers. Thackeray would spend the day at his residence `Matoshree` in suburban Bandra with family members, party sources said, adding he would not be meeting workers as he has been doing for the past 40 years. Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray and BJP leader Gopinath Munde would present to him the joint manifesto of the saffron combine for the February one Mumbai civic body polls before releasing it at the Sena headquarters in Dadar later in the day.
